The automotive industry involves the design, development, manufacturing, maintenance and selling of motor vehicles including cars and motorcycles. Examples of occupations in this industry include car manufacturer, automotive electrician and mechanic, panel beater, auto instructor, product marketing specialist, parts advisor, vehicle inspector, auto designer, auto engineer, process engineer tyre technician and salesperson.

Occupations in this industry also include the repair and service of bicycles and motorcycles, outdoor power equipment and marine vessels. New technologies in electric and alternative energy vehicles is providing new opportunities in emerging areas such as battery technology and electric vehicle servicing.

For some occupations in this industry, you can start a vocational qualification in Years 11 or 12. Other occupations will require tertiary study after you finish high school.
