Furnishing 

The furnishing industry involves the manufacture, putting together, putting in place and removal of structures, such as furniture, kitchen cabinets, doors and windows, curtains and blinds. Examples of occupations in this industry include cabinetmaker, industrial designer, glazier, furniture assembler, retail assistant, set and prop designer, furniture removalist, interior design and curtain maker.

For some occupations in this industry, you can start a vocational qualification in Years 11 or 12. Other occupations will require tertiary study after you finish high school.

Textiles, clothing and footwear 

The textiles, clothing and footwear industry involves designing clothes and footwear as well as turning raw materials, such as wool and leather in to a form that can be used to make clothing and footwear. Examples of occupations in this industry include fashion designer, dry cleaner, factory worker, clothing alterations worker, pattern maker, tailor, wedding dress designer, leather worker, laundry operator, shoe repairer, fashion and shoe designer and milliner (hat designer and maker).

For some occupations in this industry, you can start a vocational qualification in Years 11 or 12. Other occupations will require tertiary study after you finish high school. Some occupations may require a skill set or no formal qualification.
